Illusions

Fucking idiot. My company uses AI rรฉsumรฉ filters. And yes, I do know. I am closely involved in the hiring process. What is it with this oddball-ass belief? AI crap is everywhere now, including in hiring software.

Why has it become conventional PMC liberal “wisdom” that AI rรฉsumรฉ filters don’t exist and aren’t used? They are more common that not these days.

I am really having trouble understanding this absurd disconnect.

Bills Skills

It was so much fun rolling across Uzbekistan dropping $100 bills everywhere and seeing crazy shit. I wouldn’t want to do that stuff again, but what a blast.

I’m so glad I’ve led an awesome life. It didn’t have to turn out that way and chances are it would not. But I made it be that way; I willed it.

If you want to know why I was dropping hundies like a gangsta rapper, that’s because the DoD gave me a big stack of money that I couldn’t bring back but could spend on anything in country. I don’t even know how much it was. Maybe $5,000? Government efficiency1!

  1. That’s because it was unknown how much we’d need, if we’d have access to anything at all, and unknown how long we’d be gone or what kind of trouble we might run into. Of course there’d be trouble, we were paratroopers!

Working Good

Just made a big mistake that affects system operations. Tell me your past mistakes to help me feel less bad…

I’ve been lucky as I haven’t made any really huge mistakes, but if you don’t bring at least part of production down sometimes, you’re not a real sysadmin doing anything consequential.

In my career, I’ve:

1) Rebooted the wrong server (at least twice, prod instead of dev/test).

2) Locked myself out of a firewall, had to drive on site (luckily only 20 minutes and it was after hours) and connect to the console to fix it.

3) Nuked a DHCP scope that was still valid, meaning those computers had nowhere to renew their leases when it came time, keeping them from accessing the network.

Those are just screw-ups I can remember. I am sure there have been others. But as a sysadmin, ultimately even if you test something you’re making the actual change in prod. And for us, prod is never exactly like the test environment as that’s just not possible. And no one is perfect. These things will happen. Having quality backups and a plan to revert to a working known good config is key.

Crime Times

A lot of the people claiming actions in war are “war crimes” that are in no way war crimes comes from the belief that war should be noble and should look like this:

I blame war movies, mostly. The reality is that war is never noble. Never was, and never will be. It’s a horror from end to end and that horror lasts and lives not only through the conflict but for the entire remaining existence of anyone who experienced it.

That said, best is defeating your enemy without either of you having to fight at all. Next best is incinerating your enemy while they are sleeping in their barracks or camp. Or something similar.

And doing that is not a war crime. It’s what you — if you’re competent — should be aiming for as a commander. Your goal is to prevent your enemy from fighting and if you do have to fight, achieving a decisive and quick victory.

If I were charged with fighting a war, I’d do the things below with no compunction. And none of this are war crimes, you clowns:

1) Shooting retreating soldiers.

2) Shooting and destroying fleeing enemy aircraft or watercraft.

3) Dropping thermite on enemy targets.

4) Destroying enemy supplies.

5) Setting up an ambush and then eliminating the enemy with no possibility of resistance.

Not war crimes! That is just how you fight a war if you want to win.

World is full of doofuses.

Goodness

Men of Reddit, How has intimacy with older women at a young age impacted you?

It was a great experience and I wish I’d been able to be with older women at an even younger age. I learned a lot about how better to interact with women, got vastly more skilled at sex, had an amazing time otherwise and highly recommend it to all men.

In general something is only traumatizing because society brainwashes you into believing it’s so, and men are not women.

It made me a better person, lover and friend. Again, highly recommended.

Climate of Arrogance

Yep. I do things people claim are “impossible” because I know I am smart enough to undertake them at very low risk.

What applies to normies I just do not give a fuckkkkkk about. Who gives a rip what some doofus who can’t even understand that climate change is a real thing believes or says? You think in jingles and I think in systems.

Guess who wins? If that’s arrogance, so be it.
