A5

Sometimes I wonder if people cannot read or remember things they lived through. Or it’s just some sort of weird trolling or clownin’.

NATO invoked Article 5 after the 9/11 attacks — the only time it’s ever done so. Many NATO nations supported the US afterward as a result of that article’s invocation. That’s what it fucking means, damn.

  1. I don’t know how old this poster is. However:
There are full grown adults who can rent a car by themselves who weren’t alive on 9/11.

The median age American was ~5 when the Cold War ended.

And they probably know just as much about both as I learned about the Vietnam War in school…which is nothing.

They might have been personally traumatized by 9/11 but most 15 year olds did not read the paper.

Eh. Hard to believe. Just as I have trouble believing that half of adult Americans read below a sixth grade level even after seeking out the source of the claim.

    • I think this person is only a bit younger than I am, so should recall 9/11. And I just wish people would actually look stuff up sometimes.

I totally believe that half of adults read below a sixth grade level, though. Even a lot of people in white collar jobs are in my view functionally illiterate.

      • When I was a student of journalism (a few decades ago) we were explicitly told (time and time again) to never write above an 8th grade level. That wasn’t the only or main reason I left that program but….. it was up there.

        • We learned the same thing. Inverted pyramid and 8th-grade reading level or your story got canned (inverted pyramid makes sense though due to dynamic space allocation needs of physical newspapers).
