Reddit is removing links to Luigi Mangione’s manifesto.

I mean, yeah? Reddit has been censoring anything even mildly critical of the health care industry, much less actual links to a manifesto. And no, I don’t mean them tossing anything celebrating Brian Thompson’s death. Even just, “Maybe we should reform this mess” often gets deleted and the user banned.

Reddit has gone full corpo (not surprisingly now that it is a publicly-traded company).

Ants

Noah Smith really, really does not understand how health insurance works or that insurance is a tug-of-war between providers and insurers. He sees insurers as a blameless mediators caught between costs and providers, principally because they do not make much obvious profit. In reality, they are a source of inflationary pressure in a continual arms race between how much money required insurance drives up de facto costs, how much providers attempt to grab, and how much they are bilked and can bilk.

It’s a multi-layered fraud combined with financial conflict and beset with huge inflationary pressures, mostly caused by insurance itself.

In other words, they are all villains and none are blameless. I’d say providers and insurance companies are about 40/40 villain, with other 20% being various other health care parasites.

The entire US medical system is a scam and insurance companies are no less evil and no less crooked than any other component.

Immuno Destructo

So, Covidians really do believe that Covid destroys your immune system?

LOL.

(All viruses that cause illness have temporary immunosuppresive effects, including SARS-CoV-2. Only those like HIV destroy or permanently weaken your immune system in 99.99% of humans. I don’t believe there is any coronavirus that has any significant long-term immunosuppresive effect as that is simply not their modus operandi.)

Only Capitalist-Approved Messages

The Reddit mods have spent absolutely vast amounts of time and effort removing anything that portrayed UHC or capitalism in a negative light. They were fake-justifying this censorship with “not glorifying violence,” but it had zero to do with that in actuality. This crackdown was of course in service of being and remaining advertiser-friendly since Reddit is a capitalist enterprise and advertising-driven.

It’s an unenviable task, in many ways. Reddit mods are not paid, yet they must act as subservient thralls to the whims of forces that demand their fawning servility. At the same time, they must pretend they are suppressing valid dissent for the good of the community. Neither are things that I could or would do.

The fact is that in the US that nearly everyone knows someone who was killed by UHC or a similar organization denying them healthcare. That’s where the anger comes from. That’s why people (including me) are celebrating the death of the sociopath CEO.

And try as it might, Reddit will not be able to keep that hidden.

Icy

On the whole UHC CEO thing.

Clownish pussyfooting. It’s just Reddit trying to be advertiser- and capitalist-friendly.

Luckily, on my own blog I can say that taking out that asshole was a great Christmas present. I’m ecstatic that the UHC thug got iced and I hope it happens to many, many more healthcare CEOs and execs. And soon, too.

As the series of below comments notes, on corporate social media the nearly-unanimous joy about the UHC sociopath’s assassination is being very heavily censored and suppressed while capitalist and UHC-approved views are being promoted.

UHC Ya

Essentially, to expand on the below, most of the right imagines themselves as the UHC CEO and not as someone that CEO has denied some medication or treatment to increase profits.

The reality is that the UHC CEO was responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths at the very least. So, justice was served.

Deserving It

Not only do I not give a fuck that the UHC healthcare CEO scumbag was killed, I would’ve been honored to pull the trigger myself 1.

Again: fuck that guy.

  1. I would not want to suffer the consequences for doing that, but nevertheless….
